El Greco paintings

El Greco, or Dominikos Theotokopulos, was born in Greece, which is where his nickname comes from. When he moved to Venice, he met the greatest Italian artists of 16th-century Europe. He was a student of Titian and was also inspired by the works of Tintoretto. However, it was only when he moved to Spain that he began to develop his own style, which differed significantly from the Renaissance canons of the time and was more related to contemporary painting. El Greco's works are characterized by strong contrasts, strong brush lines adding an effect of expression and mysticism.
